Hard, heavy, and Herculean: State Green – Warning Shots

Those of us who still pray to the guitar gods often sadly leave our church dejected. But in a world that is all too often trading six-strings for synths, it appears that our calls have been answered in the form of Warning Shots by State Green.

With hard and heavy riffs that lurk in the shadows cast by rock legends like Led Zeppelin and Deff Leppard, this Hertfordshire based band have shown that they are truly a force to be reckoned with, and they’re not afraid to begin with a bang! The stonking instrumentation (including drumming that I swear could have been performed by John Bonham himself) is contrasted and then complimented perfectly by lead vocalist Dina Konradsen, whose sultry, honey-soaked tones quickly become infused with grit and passion as the song moves on.

Another moment of brilliance is the ending section, as a short bass break gives you a chance to catch your breath, before a sterling guitar solo gently picks you up and plunges you into the beautiful riotousness that came before it.

If you’re a fan of a 3 minute, saccharine-sweet, 4 chord pop wonder, this song is not for you. But if you like your music to grab you by the scruff of the neck and take you on a journey, this is definitely your chance to say hallelujah!
