I guess it’s that time; our one and only Christmas single review of the year. I’m not into Holiday music music at all, but even I can occasionally be a sucker for a slightly left field festive tune, and Nashville vocalist Brooke August’s HoHoHo Phaze is more than music to my ears.
The song holds a strong R&B sway, but still manages to be a quirky beacon of festivity. The Ariana Grande-influenced vocal is kept largely in check, bringing the song ever so slightly closer to adult contemporary. But at the end of the day, it’s a boisterous R&B bopper, leagues ahead of most Christmas submissions we received this year.
