The Independent Christmas Playlist: Ravi Amruth – Mistletoe

When I first thought about this playlist I asked for a little help and Ravi jumped in. Couldn’t have done it without him. The process of getting this together was hard at first but with people like Ravi asking around then pointing artists in my direction this list soon came together.

Patrick Rowles – Creator of the Independent Christmas Playlist.

Within the past few songs on the playlist, we’ve been taking a dip into our emotions, and swimming in a puddle of pensiveness. Mistletoe, by Ravi Amruth, continues this trend.

Despite with the saccharine sweet offerings within the verses, this song offers a strange amount of beautiful ambiguity – is it happy? Is it sad? One thing is for sure – the lyrics are so evocative, you can almost feel the snow melt on your skin as the words cascade into your ears. The chorus comes dangerously close to being a tearjerker, but thankfully stops short and settles for being wonderfully warming.

The ‘fireside’ version on this particular compilation, makes for some wonderfully intimate listening – though the original version of the song is a much more rocky affair whilst being equally emotional.

You can listen to Mistletoe (Fireside Version) on the Independent Christmas Playlist, which has been lovingly compiled by Patrick Rowles. Read more about the Independent Christmas Playlist here!
