Supermutt – Wanna Go Home

New Jersey rockers Supermutt take the sounds of classic hard rock and repackage them in balls-to-the-wall, raucous fashion.
If the band’s mission was to rehash an old sound, then it has been achieved tenfold on Wanna Go Home. Sure, it may have benefited from some additional elements; like those which they could’ve truly called their own – but there’s so much fun contained within this 5 minute sweat-fest that I’m inclined to overlook that.
With crunchy, blues rock riffage and howling vocals, the song is evidently aware of its own forebearers. And that’s a good thing, as this self-awareness means they can draw together all the most exciting aspects of past rock legends like Led Zeppelin and Alice in Chains. An unbridled enthusiasm for the old can be captivating, and Supermutt have succeeded in channelling that classic energy.
Still early into their career, they are in a good position to steadily build on these influences and forge their own, unique path. I hope they choose to do so.
