New LP sees The Avalanches trading in their plunderphonics sound for an more disco-oriented one. Certainly, artistic evolution is a natural component of an artist’s career, and this change was inevitable.
However, much of what it has to offer has left me with little to say. The instrumentals are over-minimalistic and fail to convey the emotion that the group’s older works did. Sadly, I think the highlights here are the tracks where the band goes back to the old plunderphonics sound.
