Rook Monroe – Californialand

With the world the way it is, and as the weather bears down on us here in the UK, it’s sometimes difficult to get lost in thoughts of the The Golden State. But we’re sure that the sand, palm trees, and sunshine have just been brought a whole lot closer to us by Rook Monroe and the lovely bop that is Californialand.

Greeted immediately by a wall of gorgeously layered and phasing vocal harmonies, this is the perfect song to close your eyes, exhale deeply, and imagine what it would be like to just hop on a plane within nothing apart from a ticket, a dream, and the world at your feet.

Californialand takes us on a journey, and manages to be vivid and expressive without being overbearing, and is a short, sweet, and charming song that will bring a grin to your face and have your foot tapping. Given Monroe’s success at getting placed onto Spotify and Apple official playlists straight off the bat, we’re clearly not the only ones to think so, and he’s definitely one to watch going forward.

You can take a listen to Californialand on your streaming platform of choice, and find out more about Rook Monroe on his Instagram.
