Coty – TBG

Debut single from Hawaiian singer/songwriter Coty tells the tale of an unrequited crush on a girl taking his Taco Bell drive thru order; the abbreviation “TBG” of course, being an acronym for “Taco Bell Girl”.

Despite the somewhat basic premise, Coty takes the concept to a more intimate and serious level. The song progresses into an emotional mash of genres that formulate into a kind of new-age R&B ballad. It seems somewhat insular, but Coty allows us to escape into his illustrations while keeping us enamoured with smooth, melodic hooks which seem to find the solace in sorrow.

Coty is also fortunate in possessing the skills to orchestrate his own videos, photography, and graphics design; overseeing every artistic aspect of his projects. TBG was written and produced straight from Coty’s bedroom, and drops Feb 12th. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more from him.
