The Norwegian dream pop three-piece create their world of expression through subtraction. The band boast an intelligent sound which is minimal, though not jarringly so – with dreamy textures and a mesmerising charm.
Taken from their latest EP Nouvelle Noveau, lead single and EP opener Talk With You is conjured from a slim palette, adhering to stripped-down sounds which flow like rivers of silk. Gentle, tremelo’d chords echo away under drumming that is bongo-driven and sparse, forming tightly wound layers that loop to create a spiralling base for singer Elisabeth Thorsen’s double-stacked harmonies and subdued, delicate tone. Her performance feels all the more intimate by the arrangement being clear of any unnecessary clutter.
Although I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting, I’ve always imagined Norway to be quite similar to how this song sounds; quiet, peaceful and a lot of uninhabited space. Among so many bands today trying to out-noise each other, it’s refreshing to hear one that has deliberately taken the opposite path.
