A couple of years ago I discovered Boogie Down Productions. I understood right from the first listen why KRS-One was one of the true pioneers of hip hop.
Between Da Protest is his 23rd album, and the release of it could hardly have been more underhyped. Dropping an album in the last two weeks of December may reveals to us how little concern he has for the marketing process. This is why we love him. This, and the fact he’s also one of the most likeable and charismatic people in hip hop – just watch any interview with him and you’ll see what I mean.
A lot of strong tracks here, although this album may not be on par with Boogie Down Productions in the 1980s and early 1990s, the message is still as clear and powerful as it has ever been. Check out the extended edition here.
