The Independent Christmas Playlist: The Last Clouds – The Last of The Light

“The Last Clouds are a duo from Chester. This song is a little out of their comfort zone as Matthew normally writes his fears, as he puts it… exorcising them as he writes.”

Patrick Rowles – Creator of the Independent Christmas Playlist

From the minute the orchestral introduction to this tune hits, you can tell you are going to be faced with an absolutely epic Yuletide tune. Throughout a wonderfully crafted first verse, you can’t help but feel this is the sort of song that would have resulted if the Pet Shops Boys were able to randomly bump into Tchaikovsky down an alleyway to pull a Christmas cracker. The lyrics remind us that it’s not the material items that matter – our own little worlds can be a complete mess, but as long as the right people are around us, it can be a festive paradise.

The chorus to The Last of The Light climbs and descends with beautiful Bowie-esque vocals, that cry out for any semblance of warmth amongst the bracing cold of the winter months.

If you are looking for a tune to grab your loved one and waltz around the kitchen floor just before the Queen’s Speech this year – this is the one you need to be reaching for!

You can listen to The Last of The Light on the Independent Christmas Playlist, which has been lovingly compiled by Patrick Rowles. Read more about the Independent Christmas Playlist here!
