Beginning with solemn piano intro, Leave A Chair Out is a pleasure to listen to from the get-go. As soon as Kemp’s vocals hit, they strike as being immediately delightful, pensive and poignant; and call back to memories of the previous years and pointed heartbreak.
Not one to be a stick-in-the-mud, though, Kemp resolves the rather wistful verses with a catchy chorus that includes heart-rending calls for reconciliation. This is a song for life and not just for Christmas.
In a year where we have been plagued by woe and worry, this is the perfect tune to remember how lucky you are to hold the people you love close this year.
