Anorak Patch – Irate

Colchester grunge rockers Anorak Patch bring forth some potent intensity on their new single ‘Irate’. They clearly are a band of musos; the music drawing on some interesting influences and very riff based. The discordant ring of Oscar Ryland’s guitar brings to mind 90s alt-rock bands like Jawbox and Shudder to Think while Effie Lawrence’s melodic vocals act as an anchor to the proceedings.

The band wrote ‘Irate’ during the first lockdown, after having their exams cancelled. The song aims to show how people’s everyday lives were changed by the pandemic. “He takes a break from a world he loves” is referring to playing and going to gigs, something the band missed very much last year.

Despite having only heard this one track, I have a really good feeling about this band. It’s encouraging to see that at such a young age they have a blueprint for what could be grow into something truly exhilarating and compelling. Listen to the track on Soundcloud and keep an eye on these guys.
