BŠĀR – Achilles’ Heel

On first listen, UK based songwriter/producer BŠĀR (pronounced “buh-sar”) comes off like the lovechild of Prince and Daft Punk; putting a straightforward pop template through an experimental blender. His new single Achilles’ Heel drops tomorrow and I’m excited to sink my teeth into this eccentric affair.

The groove sinks in deep, its dancefloor motifs engaging, alongside pad synths slipping between passages of deep future-funk. Despite a set of complicated, meandering chord changes, the melodies act as an anchor to the proceedings, remaining distinguishable throughout. What makes it all the more fascinating is the fact BŠĀR wrote, arranged and performed everything on the track himself. Then he produced it. For my money, that is some top-tier musicianship.

The jubilation inherent in the creativity and playfulness of the music is what draws me in. It’s bewitching stuff. I’ll certainly be waiting on more chin-stroking material from BŠĀR. Pre-save the album on the platform of your choice and check back tomorrow when it drops.
