Cam Be – Summer in September

Cam Be’s sophomore album Summer in September was released last December, steeped in soul, hip-hop and jazz. Lyrically, an intelligent and honest look at black culture in the modern world. Exploring themes that run deep but promoting self-respect and love above all else. A new music video for the album’s title track dropped last week, directed by Chicago director Briana Clearly.
Briana explains; “There’s something about (the song) that instantly reminds me of teenage love; passionate and fiery, yet sweet and innocent. I wanted to capture that feeling of being young, carefree and in love and I think we did that.”
The song is a dreamy soul-infused piece, boasting rich instrumentation with sparse percussion. This free-form quality gives Cam Be the space to meditate on his sentiments. In this context; a conversation with his heartthrob. The video sets its aim on nostalgia, depicting scenes of youth and innocence. Cam Be uses this idyllic portrayal of love as an ode to the memories that we all hold dear.
