Kodey Brims – Got Me Running

Kodey Brims describes herself as someone with one foot in reality, with the other in her imagination, and nothing could evidence this more clearly than her new release of Got Me Running.

Noted by Brims herself as a commentary on the topic of anxiety, this is definitely a bit of a bop that will get your feet tapping. We were really impressed by the variety of instrumentation on show here, with elegant pianos, gorgeous acoustic guitars, and a variety of shamisen-esque string instruments all nestled neatly into a mix that immediately gets you grooving without feeling turgid.

The vocal timing and attack on Got Me Running needs the tiniest hint more work to really capitalise on the punch that this tune packs at times, but that certainly doesn’t dent the strong and brilliantly catchy melodic motifs that have been written into the vocal here. Furthermore, while punches may have been pulled elsewhere in the vocal delivery, the song as a whole definitely delivers with an amazing drop at around 2:25, which hit us so hard that we were almost winded.

Kodey Brims shows great talent and potential with this self-penned-and-produced release, and Got Me Running is, without a doubt, a tune that will cling to every synapse within your brain and be a brilliant earworm to get you through a day.

You can listen to Got Me Running on your streaming platform of choice, and find out more about Kodey Brims on her Instagram and Facebook pages.
