Wooden Hospice – Masquerade

Latest single from Bucks singer-songwriter Nick Shillito (released under the name Wooden Hospice) taps into an unique, classic nouveau-psych energy.

Masquerade conjures up the spirit of late-90s alt-rock while also remaining fresh production-wise. I actually am in favour of the fact that it doesn’t come off as though it was recorded decades ago, a feat many artists today are striving to achieve.

The song explores more traditional melodies, blending the familiar with the far-out to craft an expansive psych-pop timbre. With multi-layered synth and guitar, backed by some huge sounding drums, it aims to exercise magnitude as an instrument in and of itself. This larger-than-life approach enables Shillito’s vision to be shaped into something all-encompassing and accessible; each layer working in harmony to create effortless, dreamlike vibes.

Wooden Hospice’s debut EP entitled ‘Oiseau’ will be released March 12th, with a music video for Masquerade dropping this Friday.
