The Independent Christmas Playlist: Oh! Paolo – Christmas in Amsterdam

Oh! Paulo is a very talented singer From Aberdeen. Heaven knows what’s in the water up there but what a year it’s been for Scottish artists and Oh! Paulo is no exception. He was first brought to my attention by the sister of another Scottish artist who I trust very much when it comes to music.

Patrick Rowles – Creator of the Independent Christmas Playlist

Songs, to some, aren’t just a mere 3 minute medium to release a few feelings, but a brilliant mechanism to paint beautiful pictures and weave technicolour stories – and it’s clear that Oh! Paolo is of that school of thought.

Despite a slightly sonically jarring beginning, the song settles into being a heart-breaking tale about a person wandering the streets of Amsterdam and desperately searching for the cure for his winter blues. Eschewing all attempts at holier than thou communications en masse, Christmas in Amsterdam is definitely a refreshing change from the run-of-the-mill Christmas songs peddling peace and goodwill to all men.

You can listen to Christmas in Amsterdam on the Independent Christmas Playlist, which has been lovingly compiled by Patrick Rowles. Read more about the Independent Christmas Playlist here!
