Counting Chances – Fine Fine Fine Fine Fine

Is it just me, or are we all just plastering over the cracks? All just applying that dose of daily make up and slapping on that smile? After all, if anyone else saw our ‘behind the scenes’ as opposed to our ‘highlights’ reel, it would be an incredible faux pas, wouldn’t it? So we soldier on and carry on the act. And Counting Chances may have just released the perfect tune to eke out those extra few tears behind that façade with Fine Fine Fine Fine Fine.

Right from the first verse, we were taken by the catchy but beautifully unique vocal line, with some sterling rhythmic choices in the instrumentation that keep the song moving forward in a gorgeous manner. The chorus is a fantastic piece of work – with a relatable sentiment and cascading vocal lines that would make this piece work both as some sort of sound effect on TikTok (perhaps with someone showing how they’re ‘brave facing’ it today), but also on its own as a profound statement to have in the background of a ‘could-be-better’ day. That duality is our favourite part of this song – the fact that there’s a simple surface meaning to this, but you can sense that there’s something deeper lurking beneath, which we get brief glimpses of during the verses, and in the haunting admission at the end, where we are reminded that everything is, in fact, fading.

There’s one beautiful harmony line at around 1:59 that’s a bit of a tease – we would have loved to have heard even more of that superb vocal talent throughout the song, but nevertheless: Fine Fine Fine Fine Fine is definitely more than just fine (fine fine fine fine), and we’d highly recommend it.
