Pastel Boy – Sweetness

Pastel Boy’s sophomore single displays the up-and-coming Leeds singer’s passion for jazzy electronic-based pop. He aims to both tell his story, and keep us dancing along the way.
The song, entitled Sweetness is a lustful, gaudy number which centres around a serene vocal and funky, chic production. Lyrically, the verse recounts an exploration of desire between two people, but Pastel Boy deliberately avoids the music coming off as sultry by deliberately keeping things moving and upbeat. This colourful approach causes the song to occupy an interesting conceptual space somewhere between James Smith and Toro y Moi.
This is spurred on further in the chorus; brimming with punchy rhythms and choppy guitars, vintage keys and a thumping kick underpinning everything. Pastel Boy’s vocal line serves as the backbone of the chorus with its unforgettable hook. A heavily infectious affair. It feels like a collaboration between Pastel Boy and the 1975’s producer would work well.
Sweetness drops this Friday on all streaming services.
