Gerdie – Soggy Bottom Blue

Some people feel the need to tell you things about yourself. Sometimes they’re right and sometimes they’re wrong. Either way, it can make you feel a bit soggy. And that’s what Soggy Bottom Blue is about. The upcoming single from quirky singer-songwriter Gerdie is focused on coming to terms with truths, albeit reluctantly.

This bedroom-recorded misfit of a track demonstrates not only a rich sonic palette, but a contemplation of one’s own vulnerabilities. He sings of struggles inside his head and reiterates the need for “just a little space”, implying a character trait of personal confinement

There’s an tenderness in Gerdie’s arrangements – the inclusion of a horn section provides an interesting colour that enriches the song. His exploration of a cosmic folk aesthetic is enchanting, and draws attention to his imaginative power. If he plays his cards right, this component could raise a few eyebrows in the indie music realm.

Soggy Bottom Blue drops Feb 26. Follow Gerdie on Instagram for more.
